Original 9 7/8 inch x 7 3/4 inch Silver Gelatin Print of WENDY HILLER (1912 – 2003). She was born in Bramshall, Cheshire, England and was on the stage from the age of 18 becoming an instant star with her London debut in Love on the Dole in 1935, and the following year repeated her success on Broadway. In 1937 she married the play’s author, Ronald Gow, and made her first British film Lancashire Luck. She remained primarily a stage actress, appearing only sporadically in films, but several of her film roles have made her a notable screen personality. She is best remembered for her captivating, Oscar-nominated performance as Eliza Doolittle opposite Leslie Howard in Pygmalion (1938), but she also did remarkably well with another screen adaptation of a Shaw play, Major Barbara (1941) and won an Academy Award as best supporting actress for her delicate portryal of a dejected, lonely woman in Separate Tables (1958).

Portrait by Angus McBean (1904 – 1990). Angus McBean was born in 1904 in Newbridge, Monmouthshire. He studied at Newport, and started as a full-time theatrical photographer in 1934, becoming noted for his individual approach to portraiture.

The portrait, on heavyweight paper, is in fine condition.
