Original French 47 inch x 63 inch Poster for the 1932 Pierre Billon & Carl Lamac Musical Comedy BABY starring Anny Ondra, Anton Walbrook, Albert Paulig, Lotte Spira, Kurt Lilien, Margarete Kupfer, Olly von Flint, Willy Stettner, Emilia Unda, Eva Tinschmann and Josef Eichheim.

Baby, a count’s daughter, longs for a stage career, while her best friend, a chorus girl, longs for an education. When Baby’s parents find out she has cheated them, they decide to send her to an English boarding school. Her friend’s company travel on the same boat. Both girls agree to change identities and follow their dreams.

The poster art is by Jean A. Mercier (1899 – 1995)

Active as a poster artist, illustrator and graphic designer, Jean-Adrien Mercier received his training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in his native Angers, transferring to the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1921. He began his career in 1924 as a designer of publicity and cinema posters, a field in which he was to remain active throughout his life and for which he remains best known. Between 1925 and 1942 Mercier designed more than 120 cinema posters for films by such eminent directors as Jean Renoir, Abel Gance and Sacha Guitry.
