LAND

Original Polish 22 inch x 33 inch Poster for the 1956 Jerzy Zarzycki Polish Drama LAND (ZIEMIA) starring Jerzy Strachocki, Zofia Malynicz, Jadwiga Andrzejewska, Stanislaw Milski, Waclaw Kowalski, Andrzej Kozak and Zygmunt Zintel.

Set in a Polish village of the 1950s. The process of collectivization of agriculture is underway. The wealthy farmer Slemien is one of the last individual farmers who have not joined the cooperative and is trying to cultivate the land himself. Local authorities do not accept him as a Kulak. Facing the problem of how to work a 40-hectare farm, he is finally alone with the prospect of losing land that he cannot cultivate.

Poster art by Jan Lenica (1928 – 2001). Jan Lenica became assistant to Henryk Tomaszewski at the Academy in Warsaw and later collaborated with Walerian Borowczyk on many prize-winning cartoons. His work on film posters brought him first prize at the International Film Poster Competition in 1962, one of many prizes awarded him in his part-time career as a poster designer.

The poster is in very good unfolded (rolled) condition with a crease in the top right corner.
