NIGHTMARES

Original Polish 26 inch x 38 inch Poster for the 1978 Wojciech Marczewski Polish Drama NIGHTMARES (ZMORY), based on the novel by Emil Zegadlowicz and starring Jan Nowicki, Teresa Budzisz-Krzyzanowska, Henryk Boukolowski, Maria Chwalibóg, Teresa Marczewska, Bronislaw Pawlik, Hanna Skarzanka, Aleksander Fabisiak, Michal Pawlicki, Hanna Mikuc, Jan Prochyra, Bogdan Koca, Janusz Michalowski, Piotr Lysak and Stanislaw Igar.

Set before the first Wold War in part of Poland under Austrain occupation, the story of a young boy in primary school who later grows up to become a rebellious, poetic-minded teen in the same school when the national movement toward liberation is under way. The story of a country where church and state work together to suppress the human spirit.

Poster art by Franciszek Starowieyski (1930 – 2009).

Franciszek Starowieyski was a painter, illustrator, printmaker, poster artist, theatre and TV set designer dividing his time between the ateliers of Warsaw and Paris, making some 300 posters and earning the name of one of the finest representatives of the Polish school of posters.

The poster is in fine unfolded (rolled) condition.
